Abstract

One of the most debated issues in modern Transylvanian church historiography is that concerning the origin and sources of the Organic Statute, drafted by Metropolitan bishop Andrei Șaguna, canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church in 2011. The article presents the European and inter-Orthodox context in which the Metropolitan bishop of Sibiu drafted this constitution of his metropolitanate, laying the foundation of a living Church of the people (Volkskirche).
