Abstract

Religious freedom and religious pluralism in the context of universal human values- An anthropological approach.
The article is an analysis of the concept of religious freedom and its rapport with human rights from the frame of universal values, in both historical and contemporary context. It argues that, to find viable and effective solutions to the contemporary challenges and tensions related to the topic, a better understanding of concepts and an open dialogue between parts is necessary. The anthropological approach is essential in this respect, through revealing the local cultural nuances, practices and understandings of religions and implementation of human rights in different communities. The article reviews the main theories in anthropology on the role of belief in societies as well as in the human rights context and analyses the contemporary problems and challenges that stem from the tensions between the two concepts, considering the mutual understanding, open dialogue and multilateral cooperation as key attributes for finding sustainable solutions.
