Abstract

Paul’s remarks on 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 have often been made the keystone of all kinds of abuses of man over females in worship context. The articles analyzes the passage and its historical background carefully in the quest for the following main question: is gender decisive in Paul’s argumentation? The answer is the result of an exegetical and cultural study with important implications for worship and male-female attitudes today. Notions such as equality, willing submission, and commonsense shed light on the final conclusions.
