The current migration phenomenon, (un)solved problem of the European community?!
It is self-evident that the challenge posed by the wave of migration from the Middle East and North Africa to Europe in general, and to the Catholic and Protestant West in particular, is one whose geopolitical and economic, social and cultural, theological and spiritual significance can hardly be matched by older world developments such as the secularization of the 17th century and the globalization of the beginning of the 21st century. XXI. From this point of view, the need to study the phenomenon of migration is made all the more pressing by the need for an overall assessment, an integrated and multi-criteria diagnosis, all the more so as the phenomenon of migration brings with it, ever closer to each and every one of us, the huge and extremely difficult problem of Islamic radicalization, with its cohort of terrorist manifestations that challenge the most basic of human rights: the right to life and the irrenic dialogue between religions. It is not by chance, therefore, that our study aims to undertake an evaluation on orthodox theological criteria of the impact of the current migration phenomenon, a study that represents an attempt to evaluate and compare what the coexistence of the Islamic community - ummah - implies, from a theological point of view, vis-à-vis the Christian community in the multi-ethnic and multicultural European society, starting from the different - sometimes openly antagonistic - way in which the two sides view society, think about freedom of expression and understand the relationship of dialogue/common ground between religions.
