The role of the Church in promoting and implementing education for sustainable and healthy peace.
Education is a complex of actions that is intended to form each person in society in such a way that he or she reaches a more mature level in interpersonal relations and personal actions. At the same time, the biblical principles for a sustainable education are particularly described as facets of the same goal. From this point of view, there is a similarity, because education is not just about teaching and learning. In order for a society to benefit from educated citizens who, in turn, will pass on education and its principles, it is necessary that education policy and decision makers are aware of the basic values of education and do not accept their change with pseudo-values. In fact, this seems to be the main problem of today’s society - orientation towards values that seem attractive, simple, and are promoted by political or cultural factors, but have not proved to be sustainable. To some extent, this category includes the way of promoting peace or seeking solutions to achieve and maintain it. True and healthy peace can be achieved and preserved to the extent that individuals and society agree to adopt biblical principles for education, i.e., for continuing education. These will have the desired result if they are put into practice as Jesus presented them in the Sermon on the Mount. In the education of the individual, it is necessary to understand the role of acquiring wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and the development of deep thinking and sound discernment. These are contained in what the Bible has to offer for man and society. The best promoter of appropriate education that will bring long-term results for a healthy peace is the Church. It is the Church that has at hand the Word of God, knows God’s will, laws, and principles, and has the experience of reconciling man with God and man with his fellow men.
