Abstract

Human nature: face and image of God in the Confessions of St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430)

Saint Augustine (354-430), bishop of Hippo (396-430), remains one of the unmistakable and irreplaceable theologians on the part of Western theology. His experience of joining Christianity, narrated in the form of a psalm prayer in a masterpiece  of Christian literature, Confessions, reveals the greatness of human nature, created about the image and likeness of God and destined to share in eternity, due to the incarnation of the Word of God, communion, what is called in Christian theology: the  deification of man. The model of Saint Augustine’s conversion becomes for all Christians a testimony and confession of human dignity, a dignity described in the Bible as a partnership of the Covenant with God.
