Abstract

This article identifies the foundations for the worth and value of every person that would justify the mobilization of countless people of good will to secure freedom, justice, and peace for all. It aims at fostering conversation and cooperation between religions and secular ideologies. It postulates that dignity, even though regarded in some postmodern contexts with suspicion as another tool for power and control, remains the best foundation for relating to people, treating them with respect and honor. The human person is irreducible to being an object. Dignity is in our view the bedrock for what it means to be human and humane.
