Religious education in a secularized world. Landmarks and proposals.
Man was created by God for a specific purpose, and this purpose involves the fulfillment of God’s plan. Man, by his nature, is capable of participating in the divine life and is called to do so. He must deify himself, participate in the communion between the Persons of the Holy Trinity, through love, becoming „partakers of the divine nature” (II Peter 1:4) by grace. Jesus Christ represents the supreme Model of Orthodox missionary service, He being the Teacher par excellence. “The mission of the Church is based on the deliberate sending of the Son and the Holy Spirit into the world by the Father and on the command that Christ gave to the Apostles after the resurrection: to teach the Gospel to people, to call them to repentance and to baptize them in the name of the Holy Trinity. Religious education is one of the components of education, along with intellectual, aesthetic, physical or civic education. Taking into account the fact that the supreme ideal of any human being is perfection, religious education is decisive for its acquisition.
