The extremism of eco-individualism and the reconfiguration of eco-education: an eco-theological approach for a sustainable future.
The article explores the theological dimension of environmental responsibility, emphasizing the fundamental right to a healthy environment, as recognized in UN resolutions. Drawing on biblical values and the teachings of contemporary theologians, the idea of responsible stewardship of nature, as opposed to excessive exploitation, is highlighted. Both the Lausanne Evangelical Movement and the *Laudato Si’* encyclical are considered, along with the Eastern perspective on ecotheology, and their central ideas are examined to emphasize the importance of environmental protection within the Christian faith. The article also discusses the challenges and criticisms of religious approaches in the context of the current ecological crisis, offering a balanced perspective between theology and ecological sustainability. In conclusion, it underscores the necessity of collaboration between ethics, theology, and science to address the environmental challenges we face today. Responsibility toward creation is seen as a moral imperative, not just an option.
