Abstract

Development or dehumanisation? The unexplored limits of generative AI and digitised education.
Human agency in education is the basic pillar of holistic human socialisation and development. With the free launch of generative artificial intelligence (AI) on the global market, concerns about the possible unwarranted, even harmful, exploitation of this technological tool have been heightened by the lack of evaluation and regulation of its use.  This paper argues that while any technological innovation can be used as a tool for human empowerment, it also has the potential to become a means of manipulation and debilitation. To elaborate on the two options, artificial intelligence, human intelligence and wisdom are brought face to face, and the benefits and dangers of implementing generative AI in education are then discussed.
