Analysis of Jürgen Moltmann’s Perspective on Joy in the Context of Global Crises.
Jürgen Moltmann’s reflections about joy are extremely valuable in the troubled context of contemporary culture, a culture that is undergoing a powerful crisis that threatens its stability. Through the theology he expounds in his interview with Mirosalv Volf, we can deduce important principles related to overcoming them by finding sustainable solutions. The aim of this paper is to address this secondary but important theme in Jürgen Moltmann’s philosophy and to understand the moral principles that can help today’s society to live a flourishing life. First, I will describe how, in his life experience, Moltmann outlines the theology of joy. He experiences the profound ideological crisis that was born and led to the outbreak of World War II. Secondly, I will analyse the main landmarks of the theology of joy as Moltmann understands it, and in the final part I will extract some principles necessary for overcoming moments of individual or collective crisis.
