Abstract

Desiderius Erasmus: Promoter of Religious Tolerance.

The article highlights the seminal role of Erasmus of Rotterdam in bringing to fore the paramount role of tolerance as a necessary attitude in dealing with intra-faith and inter-religious differences or tensions. This role of Erasmus is partly neglected in literature, which is why it seems high-time to picture an important aspect of his life and activity as  a humanist writer. The study introduces the problem, presents a brief biography and then presents, mainly from Erasmus’s writings, his plea for tolerance – an excellent example of speaking in favor of true Christianity.
