“Dignified Freedom”: A Theological Reading of Human Dignity, Equality and Freedom.
Because of its broad range of interpretations, the concept of human dignity has proven to be an elusive term in liberal rights discourse. This paper seeks to provide a theological reading of human dignity, which that could be useful in solving some tensions between equality and freedom. First, it tackles the question of whether a theological understanding of human dignity ought to be considered in the public sphere. Secondly, it proposes a theological interpretation of dignity, equality, and freedom. Lastly, it considers the important contribution that theological reading of dignity, equality and freedom can make to the rights discourse.
