Migration - An Expression of Freedom of Conscience and/or a Possible Threat to Peace?
Freedom of conscience is one of the fundamental rights in democratic societies and is a right that cannot be denied to any category of the population. This reality is also valid in Romania, a state that is still in the process of defining its own identity and a respectable status among the countries of Europe and the world. Within this process, it is necessary to try to affirm the attitude towards those in the migration process, in general, and towards immigration, in particular. It is necessary to analyze the reasons that underlie those who are in a situation to immigrate and in what way migration is an expression of freedom of conscience, for those who are in search of a society in which they can express and manifest this freedom and in which they have the opportunity to live in peace with all the other citizens of a nation. This reality can be very well engaged through an active manifestation of hospitality, an attitude that exceeds in intensity and perhaps even effectiveness the much-vaunted tolerance, which can also be manifested as a passive attitude.
