Universal Values and Personal Beliefs in the Formation of Youth Identity.
The article explores the process of identity formation among young people, emphasizing the central role of universal values and personal beliefs. Universal values—such as respect, responsibility, freedom, and tolerance—offer youth broadly accepted moral guidelines, promoted through education and international institutions. In parallel, personal beliefs develop based on individual experiences, social influences, and educational context. Identity is gradually shaped, especially during adolescence, through choices and critical reflection. The article also highlights potential tensions between collective values and individual convictions, showing that these tensions can become opportunities for self-discovery. Education and positive role models in young people’s lives play a crucial role in supporting an authentic identity-building process.
