Human Dignity as a Free and Responsible Personal Relationship.
In today’s complex world, the notion of human dignity faces both affirmation and distortion amid social, cultural, and technological transformations. This paper explores dignity as a dynamic expression of the human person’s freedom and responsibility, grounded in authenticity and relationality. Personal authenticity is understood not as self-assertion, but as the free assumption of responsibility for one’s being and actions. Furthermore, authentic love emerges as the deepest manifestation of this dignity, uniting freedom and responsibility in a creative, self-giving relationship. Drawing on the thought of Saint Maximus the Confessor, the study emphasizes that true human dignity is realized in communion, where freedom becomes the capacity to love responsibly. Thus, human dignity is not an abstract right but a lived, personal relationship that reflects divine love.
