Theory of the Clash of Civilizations in The Vision of Samuel P. Huntington and the Culture of Peace Proposed by the Romanian Thinker Andrei Marga.
The article proposes a comparative analysis between the “clash of civilizations” theory formulated by Samuel P. Huntington and Andrei Marga’s reflections on the conditions for world peace. Huntington argues that, in the post-Cold War era, major conflicts will take place between the world’s great civilizations, not between nation-states or ideologies, emphasizing cultural and religious differences as the main sources of global tensions. In contrast, Andrei Marga argues for a culture of peace based on inter-civilizational dialogue, global democratization, the reconstruction of rationality and the enhancement of universal human rights. Thus, while Huntington describes a fragmented and conflictual geopolitical landscape, Marga proposes a normative vision oriented towards global cooperation, understanding and reconciliation. The study emphasizes the tension between geopolitical realism and ethico-political idealism in interpreting contemporary challenges to world peace.
