Freedom of conscience and education in the age of digital technology—a foundation for building a culture of peace and respect for fundamental human rights.
In today’s digital era, Christian education represents both a strategic challenge and a moral imperative for the family, school, and church. It is not merely a legal right but a fundamental duty toward future generations, as it invests directly in the future of the country, the Church, and the civilization of tomorrow. The dangers lurking in the virtual space—ranging from harmful ideologies and violence to pornography, technological addiction, and social isolation—can only be avoided through responsible guidance and competent education. Digital technologies and artificial intelligence must not be demonized, but rather “christianized” through valuable content, active catechization, and cultural adaptation to online platforms. These tools can support the learning process, but they can never replace the human educator. Only human beings—endowed with discernment, creativity, and spiritual understanding — can shape character, transmit faith, and guide the soul toward authentic spiritual life. The personal example of parents, face-to-face education, and the coordinated efforts of family, school, and parish are all essential in forming young people. The digital refuge many children turn to often reflects a lack of presence and affection at home, highlighting the need for emotional and moral education rooted in real-life relationships. Virtual space is an ambivalent resource: it can either be a cultural landfill or a treasure chest of human knowledge and spirituality. The difference lies entirely in how well it is guided and utilized. Christian education requires communion, testimony, and lived faith—an experience that can only be truly shared from one human to another. Machines and software may support the learning journey, but they are never its central actors.
