Christianity and Human Rights.
The World Council of Churches stands firmly with the United Nations in affirming that human rights are universal, indivisible, interdependent, and interrelated. Thus, the World Council of Churches affirms that no right can be justified unless there are fundamental guarantees that affirm the right to life, to work, participation in decision-making, adequate food, health care, decent housing, education for the full development of human potential, a safe environment, and the conservation of the Earth’s resources. In other words, there is a broad and long-standing consensus among Christians that human rights are effective means of protecting human dignity and promoting social justice. These statements have motivated us to reflect on the Christian faith and human rights in this study.
