From the history of Romania’s far-right movement. The religious and political situation in the Kingdom of Romania before World War I.
The study analyzes Romania’s religious and political situation before World War I, notably aspects of Romanian anti-Semitism (causes, debates etc.) that led to the crystallization of right-wing movements and parties during the interwar period in Greater Romania. The entire pre-war period was characterized by debates on economic and social crises caused by the modernization of the new Romanian kingdom (the slogan “form without substance”). In this context, the issue of the so-called “Jewish threat” and granting citizenship to Jews living in Romania (roughly 5% of the population) played an important role.
